KQED News reports that the Supreme Court’s ruling in King v Burwell would have no effect on California. California has its own independent state exchange, so Californians who receive subsidies to buy their coverage will keep their subsidies, no matter what the Court rules. The consequences in the 34 states that do use the federally operated marketplace, healthcare.gov, would be substantial. If the Court rules that the federal marketplace has no legal right to provide subsidies, more than 6 million people currently receiving subsidies would lose them almost immediately, according to an analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation.
